Actuate Helps The Homeless Become Homeowners

Pete Cittadini, CEO and President, Actuate Corporation

On a mission to combat the growing problem of homelessness and inadequate living facilities in his home state of California, Pete Cittadini teamed up with PHH (Peninsula Habitat for Humanity); under his leadership, Actuate has donated significant funds and over 700 hours of volunteer power to help build affordable housing for the disenfranchised.

PHH represents the Bay Area as one of 1600 US affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Pete's passion for the cause shows up in the way his company defines success as more than the sum of its products, its people, its customers and its market valuation. He says success is about teamwork, a winning attitude and a willingness to go the extra mile for friends and colleagues. And so, his employees have also been involved in interior finishing, constructing walls, and constructing foundations of both multilevel row houses and townhouses. Spearheading the cause, Pete's company has sponsored the building of a Habitat for Humanity house in Daly City during 2004, sponsoring the family of Thein Aung & Daw Soe Tint.

"Our mission to assist the local community with support of housing initiatives continues to be an important focus," says Pete. Habitat has built more than 150,000 houses around the world, providing over 750,000 people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

In support of PHH, he says the company is committed to being the best corporate citizen it can be - and, whenever possible, to providing a hand-shake rather than a hand-out, as a demonstration of support. "We see the fruits of our time -- teamwork and resources result in something remarkable, after all, not many high technology co-workers can say that they have shared the experience of building a home for a family," he says.

Business apart, Pete is committed to making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
